Mills Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park makes a nice winter snowshoe hike, although boots with a pair of spikes work fine too. The difficult part about shooting at this elevation on an open lake in Winter is the hurricane force wind. It was very difficult to keep the tripod from being blown across the ice and I had to tuck into an aerodynamic position behind it.
