Lake MacKenzie sits in the backcountry along the Routeburn track in Southland, New Zealand. I had no idea of the beauty and magnitude of this lake when I began the hike and it was truly a surprise when I arrived. This is one of my favorite photos from New Zealand. In this region, typical conditions could have completely prevented this photo as the peaks are often shrouded by clouds, and a breeze obscures the reflection.
