A fire salamander sitting in the forest along a stream in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The Fire Salamander lives in deciduous forests and is completely terrestrial as an adult. They typically mate in fall, then the eggs hatch and develop inside the female during winter. In spring females travel to nearby, fishless streams to deposit fully formed, aquatic larvae.
