The European Green Toad has an expansive range across Europe, but is rare in Germany with only a few, scattered populations. My friend Volker introduced me to this population. Their natural habitats are sandy/rocky openings like river bottoms that have been scoured by flooding, and forest clearings caused by landslides. Anthropomorphic habitats include rock quarries, or in this case, a busy city park with rock terraces. Amazingly, this entire population was clinging on within the boundaries of the small park with only a tiny ephemeral pond for breeding.
