Denkendorf, Baden-Württemberg is where my family is from in Germany and where I stay when I visit. This photo embodies the love that I have for this place, and its rich, old-world history. The Kloster Church is the centerpiece of Denkendorf, surrounded by “Fachwerk” truss buildings. This photo was made possible by Germany’s unseasonably cold and perpetually stormy summer of 2021, which often produced brilliant conditions at sunset. I returned 5 evenings in a row to finally capture this shot. On this 5th evening there wasn’t a compelling reason to attempt it again because the sky appeared to be thickly overcast with no chance of light. Then surprisingly the sun descended into a small window in the clouds which briefly painted the town honey gold.
