A photo of the rising milky way with a full foreground of wildflowers is only possible in July. Earlier and the flowers haven’t peaked, later and the milky way is vertical by dark. After July the rising position isn’t visible again until March. I exposed the foreground at about 9:00 pm during blue hour (twilight). Keeping the camera in place, I then made a second exposure at 10:15pm with the sky dark and the MW risen. I then blended the foreground in with the MW shot. Without this technique, the foreground would be a black silhouette. Here you can see Mt. Crested Butte, Ski Village at its base, and a field of Lupines dotted with Aspen Sunflowers.
