This blog is nothing more than a collection of photos of cool overlanding vehicles that I’ve come across. I shot most with my cell phone on the fly, and this blog is ever-growing as I come across more bad-ass trucks. Overlanding is long distance travel with an off-road capable vehicle, with the purpose of adventure, exploration, and reaching remote destinations. Vehicles used for overlanding are practical; they can negotiate rough terrain while still having comfort, cargo capacity, and decent fuel efficiency. Overlanding vehicles are usually modified pickups or SUV’s. They serve as a general base out of which to live while in the backcountry. This is in contrast to dedicated off-road 4-wheeling vehicles, where the goal is simply to conquer rough terrain, while not necessarily covering much distance or traveling for extended periods. 4-wheeling vehicles tend to be uni-taskers; they’re heavily modified to endure extreme terrain, but lose cargo capacity, fuel efficiency, and on-road comfort. Most Jeeps, for example, are better adapted for 4-wheeling than overlanding.
For starters here’s my own rig, a 2011 Toyota Tacoma TRD, Toytec Ultimate Lift, ARB Front Bumper, Warn 10k LB Winch, Leer tall topper, Rear spare bumper, DIY Photo platform…ready for photography overlanding.
Airing back up in Crested Butte after a week off-pavement from 15 lbs to 40 lbs
The classiest Defender I’ve ever seen, this is just a gorgeous vehicle. Taken in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, Pickups and Jeeps are practically non-existent, but Land Rovers are common.
Not necessarily an overlanding motor vehicle, this bloke sports his bad-ass Surly bicycle in Old Town Ft. Collins with huge tires.
The Surly 3.8″ tire, no suspension necessary
1985 Diesel Land Rover Defender, if the owner finds this, please drop a comment on the specs.
Incredibly rare to find a Land Rover Defender in the United States, this one found cruising around Ft. Collins.
A random overlanding Tacoma that I found, similar to mine above, but with double cab and a softopper. Appears to be 2011 or less.
This is a modified surplus US Military M900 cargo truck. I passed it driving around Ft. Collins and followed it home to take its picture. This is actually a hunting truck for the off-road of Colorado. The bed expands out, increasing living space by 100%. In addition to automatic tire inflation, front & rear diff and winch, it’s got a built in generator.
A high speed, self contained and ready to roll piece of motor-t, and a prepper’s dream ( a prepper with infinite diesel stores).
Most Jeeps don’t make the list because they’re set up for off-roading, but this Wrangler is clearly set up for sustained journeys
A beautifully renovated old Land Cruiser ready for overlanding
Keep those vehicle pictures coming. When I travel I always check out well-prepped overland style vehicles.
Very cool.
I have a Tacoma similar to yours.
I really enjoy your photographs and videos.

Thanks very much Michael! Gotta love the Taco, not sure if it’s the freedom these vehicles provide, or the gagdet-factor, but I love em’
