From time to time I get emails from people around the world; most often from folks who are planning a trip to Colorado or who’ve watched my movies.  A few weeks ago I got an interesting email from Jan de Mik in the Netherlands about a photo that I took in Denkendorf, Germany.

I’m a child of the Cold War; and my dad was a soldier stationed in Germany where he met my mom. Today, I still make it back there to visit friends and family (and to photograph Fire Salamanders).

Turns out Jan’s father, Jan Cornelis de Mik (1921 – 1990) was a Dutch forced laborer in the nearby city of Esslingen during WWII. During that time Jan Cornelis made visits to Denkendorf to meet up with a Christian group to attend bible hour. Jan Cornelis was an art painter.  Below is a photo that I took of Denkendorf in recent years, beside a painting that Jan Cornelis made from memory before he died. Please enlarge it to see the detail that his father painted from memory. Amazing!

  • Hi Kim,

First, thank you! I have a private gallery in my home that you and your husband are welcome to look at, just shoot me an email. I can have prints adhered to a variety of flat surfaces.

Take care and thanks for the message, Bryan

My husband and I love your photos. Do you have a studio that we could see in person? (We live in Loveland). We would need a print that is basically flat (do you print on slate perhaps?). Thanks Bryan!
    Kim
