2014 was another great year in photography for me, however, I must say that what typified it was spending more time in the field than probably any year, but being faced with often less than stellar lighting/cloud conditions. I really had to work for the keepers that I did get. When I make these yearly lists, the photos in them aren’t necessarily all top sellers or universally popular, but truly my personal favorites with great memories and adventures attached.
And because I’ve intended to make such a list for each of the past few years, but haven’t gotten around to it, below are “retroactive” lists:
Every so often I get to visit family in the southwest of Germany near Stuttgart. My favorite thing to to there is search for Fire Salamanders in the forests on the outskirts of town.
In April on my way to Germany, I stopped in rainy Paris for 2 days.
The Louvre with a double rainbow, my reward for hiking through Parisian thunderstorms all day.
May on Colorado’s Front Range is paradise, and a brief time of year when things are green. No big adventure here, just the beautiful view off my deck overlooking my garden.
Gallardia (Blanket Flower) at the Boulder Flatirons. The Flatirons are an explosion of Colors from late April until June.
After spring has passed on the Front Range and everything drys up and turns yellow, it’s just beginning again in the high country. The fields of Lupines in Crested Butte are amazing.
The Ruby Range near Crested Butte
Sky Pond and the Shark Tooth Formation is one of my favorite destinations in RMNP. To reach it by sunrise the hike begins at 3:00 am.
The Ice Lakes area is a challenging hike, but spectacular! This is Island Lake, a short hike for Ice Lake. This image is a 5 photo panoramic stitch.
A brilliant sunset over Golden Horn from Ice Lakes in Colorado’s San Juan Mountains
Mills Lake in early November the day before it froze over solid, Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado
Moab over Thanksgiving was a spur of the moment 4 day trip that produced more keepers than longer, more deliberated photo excursions. This is the Milky Way above a Juniper Tree in Arches National Park.
False Kiva at Night from Canyonlands National Park, Moab, Utah
Mesa Arch, on Island in the Sky, part of Canyonlands National Park in Moab, Utah.
The Colorado River as it flows through Canyonlands National Park
You have some beautiful shots. I was in Crested Butte this summer a little too late for the flowers, and Paris last year. You got some great shots and I enjoyed seeing them.

I appreciate the comment Bruce, the Lupines this year were particularly early, peaking around the 4th. CB is always a wonderful experience, and Paris was interesting.
